Contractors, farmers, construction workers, and RVers know that their lifestyles require the toughest trucks. So, if you’re in the market for a new one, you might be looking into a Chevy Silverado 3500 for sale. However, we know that understanding all of the options available for this heavy-duty pickup can sometimes make a buyer dizzy; its versatility and configuration options are part of its appeal—but at Parks Chevrolet Richmond, we want to ensure you understand your options. Hence, we’ve put together a buyer’s guide to help you decide on your Silverado 3500.

Engine Options

First, let’s talk about what’s beneath the hood, because it’s the engine that makes your pickup tick and dictates what jobs and environments your truck will thrive in. Every 2025 Silverado 3500 will come standard with a 6.6L V8 gas engine paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission for those nice, small gear steps you can take when towing and going uphill. This engine gets you 401 hp and a torque of 464 lb-ft. Most importantly, it gets you a towing capacity of 19,080 lbs and the model’s best payload capacity, at 7,237 lbs.

Now, if it’s the optimal fuel economy you’re after, you can upgrade to the 6.6L Duramax Turbo-Diesel V8, which is available on every trim. Naturally, this will come with an upcharge. However, if you haul big vessels long distances, you could save money at the pump in the long run. If you opt for the diesel engine, you’ll still have a 10-speed automatic transmission, but you’ll be upgraded to a heavier-duty Allison transmission. This powertrain gets you 470 hp, 975 lb-ft of torque, and the maximum towing capacity of this model, at 36,000 lbs. If you need the power to tow an RV, large boat, or major equipment, the diesel V8 is your best bet.

Cab Configurations

Next, let’s discuss the dimensions of your Silverado 3500. You have four bed and cab configurations to choose from. First, there’s the Regular Cab with the Long Bed, which offers seating for three and an eight-foot, two-inch bed. If you mostly drive around with just one or two coworkers and want to prioritize cargo space, consider this option.

If you appreciate the bed length of the Long Bed but need extra seating, check out the Double Cab with the Long Bed. You’ll still have that lengthy payload space, but you’ll get seating for six, so you can travel with a bigger crew without sacrificing cargo. If you’re looking for something slotted between these two options, consider the Crew Cab with the Standard Bed; it has seating for five and a six-foot, nine-inch bed.

Finally, when you need space for a ton of stuff in the bed and plenty of passengers in the cab, there’s the Crew Cab with the Long Bed option. This gets you seating for six, like the Double Cab, but that seating is going to be more spacious. We often recommend this final option to larger crews that spend a lot of time traveling between job sites and don’t want to feel cramped.

Trim Levels

It’s time to talk trims, and the 2025 Silverado 3500 has four great ones. It is certainly a work-focused truck, yet Chevy designed each trim to appeal to a slightly different driver, and it’s important to know the differences to ensure you get the right one for your daily drives and tasks.

The WT

The WT is your classic, no-frills workhorse. It’s ready for long days on job sites, with its long-lasting Durabed featuring 12 standard tie-downs that make it easy to secure long and bulky cargo. It also enjoys a Trailering Package, which adds a trailer hitch, receiver, electrical harness, and a hitch guidance tool.

This trim enjoys a suite of standard driver assistance features to help you command the road, including forward collision alert with automatic emergency braking and front pedestrian braking, which can take over braking to avoid a collision with a vehicle or person on foot. A lane departure warning keeps you from drifting, and a following distance indicator helps you keep a safe following distance. Automatic high beams turn on when they’re needed and off when they’re not.

The LT

If you like the work-ready features of the WT but want some added tech and convenience features, consider the LT. It gets you the 13.4-inch touchscreen complete with Google Built-In, so you can use your favorite apps like Google Play, Google Maps, and Google Assistant on the road. Add to that this trim’s 12.3-inch driver information center, and finding important vehicle and journey stats is easy.

At the back, you’ll get a tailgate with EZ Lift, which boasts components that reduce the necessary effort when raising and lowering the tailgate and dampen the action for gentler use. This trim gets some style points, too, thanks to chrome front and rear bumpers and body-color door handles. It also gets keyless open and start, so you don’t have to take your key out of your pocket to get in the truck or turn it on.

The LTZ

If you want a solid work truck with even more great tech and some luxury perks, consider the LTZ. It builds on the LT, adding an in-vehicle trailering app that lets you create different profiles for the vessels you frequently tow. It even has pre-departure lists that remind you to check on important trailer components before you hit the road.

A hitch view on your camera will also make it easier to line your hitch up with your trailer. Plus, the power-folding and power-extending vertical trailering mirrors make it easier to monitor your surroundings when towing. We always recommend this trim to any driver who tells us they tow large loads and tow them often.

The perforated leather-appointed front seats are a nice touch, as is the 10-way power adjustability that lets you get in the ideal position for long drives. Thanks to the LED headlamps and daytime running lamps, visibility in low-light conditions won’t be an issue, either. Long work days can be a little more luxurious with this trim.

The High Country

Want to treat yourself? Consider the High Country. It has everything that the LTZ has, and more. You’ll move from the EZ liftgate to a power-up/down tailgate for fully hands-free control. The camera views continue to grow in this trim, with a bed view camera and HD Surround Vision camera, letting you monitor your cargo and surroundings with ease.

Premium leather seating surfaces featuring custom perforation and a unique stitching pattern add to the allure of this trim, as do authentic open-poor wood accents. This trim also has heated seats for the driver, front passenger, and second-row outboard passengers. You even get added safety features, including rear cross-traffic alert, front and rear park assist, trailer side blind zone alert, and a safety alert seat.
